TODAY THE Army gets a new special assault brigade, which defence
chiefs say will be the most powerful force of its kind in Europe, and
the entire Nato alliance. The formation - 16 Air Assault Brigade -
will include all three battalions of the Parachute Regiment, other
crack infantry units and a new force of Apache attack helicopters.
"It will be the most powerful force of its kind in Europe,
certainly, and possibly in the entire world," says the Army's senior
spokesman Brigadier Sebastian Roberts.
The brigade is the kind of force that was needed for recent
operations in Bosnia and Kosovo. Its troops can be delivered rapidly
