Article: Warning over new 'date-rape' drugs

A SCOTLAND YARD detective has issued a warning that powerful "date- rape" drugs may be circulating at Christmas and Millennium parties.

Detective Inspector Peter Sturman, speaking as he launched the first charity aimed at combating the use of drugs in sexual assaults, said women should be alert to the danger of drinks being spiked.

His comments came as Cosmopolitan magazine issued its own alert over the drug GHB, which it says can be bought for as little as 10 on the Internet.

GHB - which stands for Gamma-hydroxybutyrate - is less well known than Rohypnol, another date-rape drug, but is believed by experts to be more commonly used in sex assaults.
