A SMALL crowded pub and the classiest of bars have triumphed in
the Evening Standard's annual celebration of London's finest watering
holes, writes Angus McGill.
Sir Tim Rice reminded us that we had seen five very different
pubs, sampled their beer, their food, their ambience and their loos.
The one he liked best had been the Cow in Notting Hill.
Yes it could be a scrum, but he liked that in a pub. He also liked
the beer and the seafood and the little dining room.
Alice Beer preferred the Builder's Arms, lovingly remembering its
great G&Ts and the stunning Italians at the next table.
Al Murray was emphatically a Cow man: "I fell in love with this
place. I'd go back now."
