MILTON Keynes needs no signs welcoming careful drivers, as MK's
layout of short, poker-straight streets, traffic-calming roundabouts
and identikit architecture make it impossible to drive in any other
way. On Monday lunchtime, central Milton Keynes is full of new cars
cruising at 12mph, looking for that all-important hanging basket or
neon logo to indicate that this is indeed the turning for the
restaurant. After 15 minutes of driving at the speed of a carnival
float, we found Metro's on Fourth Street.
The place is heaving with blue-shirted office workers, clearly
enjoying the town's job success. A waiter explains that this is quiet
compared to later in the week and puts Metro's popularity ...
