CHELSEA enter the most critical stage of their season tonight when
a victory over Marseille here would put them within touching distance
of the last eight of the Champions League.
Success in the modern game, though, carries the inevitable
workload and, in Chelsea's case, that means 17 games in the next
eight weeks if they qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions
League. What worries manager Gianluca Vialli is the distraction
caused by the Champions League and the effect it might have on their
domestic results.
A run of 13 games without defeat has moved them into contention
for a top three finish in the Premier League and secured an FA Cup
semi-final with Newcastle at Wembley.
