ANY actor considering the part of The King of Siam in Rodgers and
Hammerstein's musical, The King and I, must at some stage confront
the hair question. Should one baldly go for the Yul Brynner look or
attempt something a little more ethnically appropriate like a top
knot?
For Jason Scott Lee, while rehearsing the role as the King for the
forthcoming West-End production opposite Elaine Paige, it proved a
considerable dilemma. He arrived in England with his jet-black hair
long.
It was then cut short in a kind of Asian pageboy, which is how he
was coiffed when we met.
