For the third straight day, Vice President Gore today painted a
detailed and dire portrait of his Republican rival's plan to bolster
Social Security while, for the third straight day, offering only a
cursory summary of his own complicated approach.
Texas Gov. George W. Bush's proposal to allow workers to direct
some payroll taxes to personal savings accounts "would take the
security out of Social Security," Gore warned about 10,000 members of
the AARP meeting here for its biennial convention. "We could see the
end of Social Security as we know it."
By contrast, Gore said his plan to dedicate interest savings to
