STAFF at Broadmoor, Britain's best-known hospital for the
criminally insane, are threatening industrial action if plans to
close their social club go ahead, it emerged today.
Nurses and doctors are furious the hospital board is planning to
turn their bar and snooker club into a training and education centre
as part of a proposal to sell 17 acres of land outside the perimeter
fence to property developers for 10 million.
The club has 1,400 members - the majority of workers - and if the
facility closes and staff go on strike it would cripple the
institution, which has recently come under fire and threatened with
closure.
