Which pub would be Pub of the Year? Which bar Bar of the Year? Unanimous it was not, but at the end of day we had our winners. THE WINNING PUB AT a time when the market gardens of Battersea were disappearing under a tidal wave of Victorian terraces there was a call for large, jovial pubs like The Rising Sun. It stood brand new, confident and swanky on the corner of Battersea Bridge Road, a handsome three-storey building, very modern with its shapely windows and elegant cast iron pillars.

It had an impressive array of bars and was good and ready for the 20th century.

Well it survived. Just. By 1999, at the young age of 100, it seemed to be on its last legs, at which moment enter Paul McKinley and Katie Reed.
