Microsoft Corp. yesterday denounced the government breakup plan
and told a federal judge it had recruited a cavalcade of star
executives from top U.S. companies such as Compaq, Geico, DreamWorks
and Nordstrom willing to testify in support of the company if only he
would call a hearing on the plan.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson has already said he
has no intention of holding another hearing and now that Microsoft
has filed its official response to the breakup plan, Jackson is
expected to issue his final order as early as tomorrow regarding what
should happen to restore competition to the software industry.
Microsoft promises a vigorous appeal.
