The Washington Redskins signed veteran Tyronne Drakeford as a free
agent in June to be their fourth cornerback behind Deion Sanders,
Champ Bailey and Darrell Green. But Coach Norv Turner said yesterday
that Drakeford's spot on the team's season-opening roster is not
secure unless Drakeford recovers from a strained hamstring and earns
his job in the coming weeks.
"He needs to play," Turner said. "He knows it. We've talked about
it. [Defensive backs coach] Ron Meeks and [defensive coordinator] Ray
Rhodes have talked to him about it. He needs to get out and show us
what he's capable of doing. I happen to think he's a good football
