Susan Sarandon ate here. So did eccentric actress Tallulah
Bankhead after starring in a play at the Olney Theatre across the
street. And Presidents Hoover, Truman and Eisenhower are also said to
have dined in one of the incarnations of the Olney Ale House.
A homey, cozy restaurant with a stone fireplace, the Olney Ale
House also lures less luminary diners, and the crowd in the waiting
area often overflows outside past the restaurant's beer garden.
Casual and comfortable, the restaurant serves a gamut of patrons,
including those getting a quick meal before going to the theater,
after-work white-collar beer connoisseurs, bikers and boisterous
families.
