THE South Bank arts centre is in jeopardy.
For 13 years the South Bank centre has been trying to improve
itself. The current masterplan - the third - by Rick Mather
Architects, is under review, and its most significant elements are
likely to be scrapped.
Officially, the South Bank "is finalising the brief, costing and
checking against planning constraints to arrive at a practicable
option". But according to South Bank insiders the centre's management
will go to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to plead
poverty early in the New Year to "look at all the options from doing
nothing to the full plan".
