DENVER (AP) - The U.S. uranium industry is in the midst of a
""midlife crisis'' mainly brought on by the wholesale importing of
cheaper uranium from South Africa, Canada and Australia, a spokesman
for the Uranium Producers of America said Thursday.
Speaking at one of the opening sessions of the National Western
Mining Conference and Exhibition, John R. Vogt of the uranium
producers group said his organization's lawsuit against the
Department of Energy could lead to a resolution of the problem with
imported uranium.
The lawsuit, he said, alleges that the Atomic Energy Act says the
DOE shall not offer enrichment services for foreign uranium. The DOE
apparently ignores that provision, Vogt said.
