Someone asked Baltimore Orioles Manager Mike Hargrove before
tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays how it felt to finally
be home. Sitting in his customary spot at the end of the Orioles'
bench, he paused for a second and then sighed. "It felt like we were
on the road for a 100 years," he said.
The difference between the Orioles at home and the Orioles on the
road is astounding. After a 2-8 road trip, the Orioles returned to
Camden Yards tonight and pounded the American League East-leading
Blue Jays, 8-3, in front of 40,412 in the opener of a four-game
series. The victory ended a 13-game losing streak against the Blue
Jays that dated from April 1999.
