When you grow up in a family that owns a business, it's hard to
tell whether working for the business is an opportunity, a
temptation, or a trap. Depending on the circumstances, it could be
any or all of the above.
When is going into a family business an opportunity?
- When the business is well run. Some family businesses are
extremely sound and gives the new employee a chance to learn good
management practices from experts.
- When the job is real. Many jobs in family businesses are real
jobs - that is, the work they entail needs to be done, and, if the
family member weren't available, some other person would have to be
