DALLAS - American Airlines Inc. flew 4.16 billion revenue passenger miles in June, a decline of 8.4 percent from June 1985, but still the second best June and the fifth best month in the company's history, the airline said Tuesday.

American attributed the decline to the inflated traffic caused by a strike at a major competitor last year.

For the first six months of the year, American reported an 8.7 percent increase in revenue passenger miles from the corresponding period of 1985, to 23.8 billion miles from 21.9 billion.

The airline's capacity, measured in available seat miles, increased 7.6 percent in June, to 6.23 billion seat miles from 5.79 billion. American's June load factor declined ...
