Attorney General Mike Turpen, stung by a second-place finish in
Tuesday's primary, says he'll unveil political upstart David Walters
as a state Capitol insider between now and their Sept. 16 runoff for
the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
""The gloves are off. I'm going to fight back, and that's the way
I like it,'' a tired, hoarse Turpen said early Wednesday.
The winner of the Turpen-Walters runoff will face Republican Henry
Bellmon in the November election. Bellmon, a former governor and
U.S. senator who has been out of politics since 1981, got
111,107votes, 70 percent, to defeat four other candidates for the GOP
nomination.
Runoff elections are scheduled Sept. 16.
