Article: Braddock Road Finished, but Debate Isn't

Nearly three years after the Virginia Department of Transportation
began widening Braddock Road between Old Town and Rosemont, the road
work is finally done, much to the relief of residents and businesses
in the area.
But the $8 million project continues to draw fire from some
community leaders who worry that the 1,200-foot-long stretch of four-
lane road is a challenge for pedestrians to cross safely, and they
wonder whether the money could have been better spent. Alexandria
leaders, too, acknowledge that the project has been troubled and have
pledged to handle future ones differently.
