Article: SALES BY U.S. AUTOMAKERS UP 5.7% IN EARLY NOVEMBER

DETROIT (AP) - U.S. automakers' domestic sales rose 5.7 percent in early November over last year, but industry-leader General Motors Corp.'s sales continued to slide without incentives, the companies reported Thursday.

Domestic-made cars sold at a seasonally adjusted rate of about 6.3 million a year during the eight selling days from Nov. 1-10, said David Healy, an auto industry analyst with Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. in New York.

``The sales rate is...pretty low. It's lower than the rate at which they're building cars, so dealer inventories are starting to build up again,'' Healy said. ``I would expect incentives again probably before the end of the year.''
