The 17-mile boat ride across the Delaware Bay on the Lewes-Cape
May Ferry takes 70 minutes, long enough to whet your appetite, and
the Delaware River and Bay Authority obligingly sells food aboard the
five vessels it runs.
It's a nice trip, especially popular in the summertime. For now,
however, you might want to consider bringing along a bag lunch.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration late last month found the
food operations "potentially hazardous" to passengers' health--with
food stored at temperatures too high, toxic chemicals stored too
close to food and plumbing insufficient to keep the drinking water
clean.
