Oklahoma City is not a likely candidate for a commercial airline hub
operation, according to Herbert D. Kelleher, chairman, president and
chief executive officer of Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Co.
However, that may not be bad news, he told the 1987 Economic
Outlook OKC Conference, sponsored by the Oklahoma City Chamber of
Commerce.
"The hub-and-spoke method is a passing phase," Kelleher said.
"Airlines operate that way right now, because it is more efficient
use of their resources, not because they want to. I see them going
more to point-to-point service as the industry levels out."
