NEW YORK (AP) - The new prime-time shows premiered Sunday by Fox
Broadcasting Co. drew about a third the audience of competing
programs on the big three commercial networks, according to overnight
ratings.
Fox, it should be noted, however, showed only two shows three
times each during the night to maximize audience sampling.
``We're thrilled. We're very happy,'' said Brad Turell, vice
president of publicity for Fox.
The fledgling network, owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch,
started up with the ``The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers'' talk show
last year. Its first prime-time series began Sunday, with more shows
scheduled to fill up Saturday and Sunday prime time by summer.
