Article: STATE MAY REGISTER FINANCIAL PLANNERS

Financial planners who are not regulated under federal or state securities laws may be recognized in the future as investment advisors and subject to regulation if the trend in the industry continues, according to Susan Bryant, administrator of the Oklahoma Department of Securities.

The Oklahoma Department of Securities is cracking down on financial planners to find those who are offering unauthorized advice on securities investments, Bryant said.

Discussion of the increased effort coincided with a report completed by the Consumer Federation of America calling for mandatory registration of all financial planners, which falls in line with new amendments to laws governing investment ...
