EDITOR'S NOTE - The nation's air traffic control system is still
feeling the turbulence from the mass firing of more than 11,000
controllers six years ago. Reports of near-collisions are on the
increase and all the while the skies are becoming more and more
crowded. The Federal Aviation Administration acknowledges there is a
shortage of sufficiently trained controllers at some airports, but
insists that safety has not been compromised.

through 1,500 square miles of sky over Oklahoma, she forgot about
Ozark Flight 400, putting the plane on a collision course with
another aircraft.
