"Custom Combining on the Great Plains: A History," by Thomas D.

In the classic story, "The Wizard of Oz," the displaced Dorothy
was advised by the Munchkins to "follow the yellow-brick road" back
to Kansas after her memorable ride on the cyclone.
As we all know, the advice was sound, because Dorothy did find
her way to Kansas in the end, even if the pompous, fraudulent
"Wizard" had no magical powers. He at least had the foresight to
keep the hot air balloon in which he had arrived in Oz some years
earlier.
In the latter part of the 19th Century, other travelers found
themselves beginning to follow ...
