The 40thanniversary of the well that
launched offshore oil and natural gas production will be celebrated
Nov. 13 in Morgan City, La., by the people credited for development
of that well, the No. 1 well on Ship Shoal 32.
The party will be hosted by Kerr-McGee Corp., the operator of
the No. 1, considered the first commercial well that was out of
sight and safety of shore. It was drilled from a platform
constructed in 18 feet of water located approximately 10 1/2 miles
offshore Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico.
Twenty-three members of the exploration, drilling and production
crews have been invited to the anniversary party.
