Japan is starting to rejuggle its economy in an effort to attain faster domestic growth and slower external growth.

Prime Minister Noburo Takeshita and his Cabinet accepted a plan just before Christmas, prepared by the Economic Planning Agency, for transforming the country from a supercompetitive export machine to a more balanced and affluent society ready to play a larger role in stabilizing the world economy.
