A $6.5 million national memorial for U.S. marshals killed in the line
of duty will be constructed on a wooded 7.2-acre site near the
National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center, it was
announced Wednesday.
The site, directly across NE 63rd St. from the entrance to the
Cowboy Hall of Fame, was selected after a nationwide 18-month
search, said Stanley E. Morris, director of the U.S. Marshal
Service.
Deed to the site was transferred Wednesday from the Oklahoma
City Economic Development Foundation to the U.S. Marshals
Foundation. The U.S. Marshals Foundation, a non-profit, privately
funded organization, will fund the memorial, Morris said.
