When Tampa hosted the Super Bowl after the 1983 and 1990 seasons,
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could not have attended without tickets.
Back then, players for the struggling franchise harbored no
expectations of playing at home in late January. But after a flurry
of moves that bolstered a roster that made it to the NFC title game
last season, the Buccaneers hope to become the first team to play at
home on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Buccaneers' training facility at the University of Tampa is
less than 10 miles from Raymond James Stadium, which also will host
the team's first exhibition Friday against the Washington Redskins.
