Article: STATE JOBLESS RATE UP TO 6.5 PERCENT IN AUGUST

The Oklahoma unemployment rate in August was 6.5 percent, an improvement from the revised 6.7 percent jobless rate in August 1987.

But it fell behind July's revised rate of 6.3 percent, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

Oklahoma's total labor force numbered 1.5 million, with 1.4 million holding jobs and 97,100 unemployed. This compares to 1.55 million people in the labor force during August 1987, with 1.44 million employed and 104,300 unemployed.
