Oklahomans should have the opportunity to vote on a proposed
$520 million, four-turnpike package, according to Phil Nelson,
general manager of the American Automobile Association of Oklahoma.
This proposed vote, Nelson said, should come before bonds are
issued and plans finalized for those turnpikes, which he said have
been proven unfeasible.
"At the very least," he said, "the people will have their say
and it certainly will keep us from rushing headlong into this
thing."
Nelson proposed such a vote "some time ago" in a letter to Gov.
Henry Bellmon, he said, but no response has been given.
"We are not being met with a great deal of receptiveness on
this," he said.
