Like so many Oklahomans, I knew almost nothing about betting on horses when Remington Park was opened a year ago.

My total experience amounted to a few visits to Blue Ribbon Downs, Louisiana Downs, Midway Downs and Will Rogers Downs. I tried betting on hunches that stemmed from my hotel room number, horses with familiar names, horses that looked anxious to run, jockeys and owners I had heard about, and tips I overheard at the track.
