Article: SEPTEMBER JOBLESS RATE FOR STATE AT 5.1 PERCENT

Oklahoma's September unemployment rate was 5.1 percent, down from 6.2 percent in September 1988 but slightly higher than the 4.9 percent recorded in August, the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Thursday.

Oklahoma City's jobless rate of 4.5 percent in September showed improvement from 5.3 percent one year earlier, but was higher than the 4.2 percent August rate.

W.J. Bowman, senior labor economist with the commission, said the September statewide increase over August was "not statistically significant, particularly in light of the fact that the jobless rate stood at 5.6 percent in July, just two months ago."
