National Weather Service Still Committed to NEXRAD CLEVELAND - The National Weather Service says it remains committed to a computerized radar storm detection system yet to be installed despite tests that indicate the technology frequently breaks down and is less reliable than the existing 33-year-old system.

``The program is supported and we are proceeding to install the radar,'' Don Sarreals, special assistant to the NEXRAD program office, told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer for its Sunday editions. ``We're making progress as rapidly as we can. When you're building something for the first time, you encounter various obstacles.''
