Glen Johnson says childhood years spent in Washington, D.C., and his parents' guidance started him on the road that led to the top position in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

``I lived in Washington from the third grade to the 10th grade,'' Johnson said while relaxing in the five-room speaker's suite he had just taken over in the Capitol.

``It made an impression on me, obviously, living in Washington during the '60s,'' said Johnson, an only child. ``It was a very exciting time. There was a lot going on.

``And then, I've always had an interest in government. Both my parents, from an early age, instilled in me that everybody needs to have some involvement in public service ...
