Oklahoma's active drilling rig count
rose to 105 last week, up 6 percent from
99 the previous week.
That was still 16 percent below 125
rigs working in the comparable week a
year ago, according to Baker Hughes
Inc. of Houston, which has monitored
the rig count since 1940.
Nationally, there were 850 rigs
working last week, a climb of 3.2
percent from 824 the previous week.
That was 14.2 percent lower than 991
rigs working during the comparable
week in 1990, though.
The rig count reflects the number of
rigs searching for oil and gas, not the
number of producing wells.
