Article: Car, Light Truck Sales Fall 14.3% in Early November

DETROIT (AP) _ Early November sales of North American-made cars and light trucks fell 14.3 percent compared with a year earlier, industry figures showed Wednesday, darkening the gloom for already depressed auto manufacturers.

The reports came the same day the government reported an unexpectedly sharp 0.7 percent rise in wholesale prices last month, based partly on price increases for 1992 model cars and trucks.

While trying to generate profits by raising prices, automakers have been trying to figure out how to stimulate the sales rate. Speculation has risen that automakers soon will boost incentives to encourage sales.
