NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average hit another
record high Tuesday as prices were boosted by upbeat economic
reports and encouraging comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Alan
Greenspan.
The Dow average of 30 industrial stocks rose 14.98 points to
3,290.25, surpassing the record high of 3,283.32 it reached last
Wednesday.
But the gain was not as strong in the overall market. Advancing
issues outnumbered declining ones by only about 6 to 5 on the New
York Stock Exchange.
Volume on the floor of the Big Board totaled an estimated
200.86 million shares as of 4 p.m., up from 180.38 million in
Monday's session.
