Montgomery County voters will decide Nov. 7 whether eight years is
enough for some local elected officials, even as neighboring Prince
George's County voters decide whether to repeal term-limit
restrictions there.
Montgomery's ballot measure would change the county's charter to
limit the county executive and council members to two consecutive
four-year terms. Uniformly opposed by the elected officials it would
affect, the measure was placed on the ballot via a petition drive by
Bethesda lawyer Robin Ficker.
Passage would lead to a sea change in county government and could
spark a dizzying game of political musical chairs.
