With crude oil prices in the doldrums and likely to stay
there, now may not seem like the time to buy oil company stocks.
But oil analysts say there are some special opportunities,
especially among the domestic oil companies, including Arco,
Phillips Petroleum, Pennzoil and Amarada Hess.
Some, however, acknowledge that the best time to buy may be
six months from now, when oil prices start moving.
Simon Trimble, an oil analyst at Lehman Brothers, says that
because of pessimism over the future price of oil, the domestic
oil stocks have taken a rougher beating in the market than have
the large international companies, which generally can better
weather regional economic downturns ...
