Donald Hand finds it as hard to believe as everyone else. After
two years of wild, corkscrew jumpers and head-down, full-speed drives
into the lane, the senior Virginia point guard has matured into, of
all things, a distributor.
"I never thought I'd be so happy getting an assist," Hand said of
his transformation into a model citizen at the point. He is averaging
7.2 assists per game, 11th best in the country, with an assists-to-
turnover ratio of 3.3 to 1, a vast improvement from his 4.2 assists
and 1.3 to 1 of last season.
Last season, though Hand was a second-team all-Atlantic Coast
Conference selection, he concedes that he might have shot too often
(11.8 per game) and passed too seldom on ...
