Article: Most Americans Want Health Care for Everyone, Not Just 95 Percent

NEW YORK (AP) _ Most Americans want a national health care program to cover everyone, not just 95 percent of the people, according to an Associated Press poll.

The poll was taken July 20-24, just after President Clinton's suggestion _ quickly disavowed by the White House _ that "95 percent or upwards" might be enough to fit his definition of universal coverage.

Seventy-four percent of those surveyed say the system should give all Americans insurance that covers all necessary care. Women, blacks, people born in the 1940s and those from lower middle-class families are especially likely to support the idea.
