Article: Mexico Reduces Speed Limits as U.S. Trucks Enter Market

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico _ Mexico soon will reduce speed limits on federal highways to 50 mph for most trucks and passenger buses and will require truck owners to install mechanical devices to guarantee that the limits are enforced, a federal highway spokesman said.

The speed limit and installation of the mechanical devices, or governors, will apply to all Mexican freight haulers, many buses, and to U.S. truckers who will begin entering the country next year, said Jesus Roldan, director of foreign press relations at the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation, or SCT, in Mexico City.
