It was back in 1988 that Christian Keesee, chairman of American Bancorp of Edmond, first visited Moscow with a group of U.S. business leaders. He was intrigued with the art that was emerging in the Soviet Union amid Gorbachov's "glasnost" policy.

He returned in 1990 to visit museums, and this time he returned with a determination to share with others his "fascination" with the works of "new" Russian artists. So he talked with Christopher Youngs, then director of the Oklahoma City Art Museum, and Jon Burris, curator of the Robert A. Hefner Collection of Contemporary Chinese Paintings.
