PHOENIX _ From credit card-activated gas pumps to freshly made take-out food, Circle K Corp. is reinventing its stores as it seeks to re-establish itself in the fiercely competitive convenience store business.

The Phoenix-based chain, shrunk by nearly half after three years under Bankruptcy Court protection, has resumed cautious expansion as it works to improve the image of its 2,460 stores in 28 states including Oklahoma.

In March, the nation's second-largest convenience store chain became a public company again, selling 6.5 million shares of stock and getting a listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
