SAN FRANCISCO -- Dwarfed by the massive ramparts of the Vercors
Mountains, Prelenfrey-du-Gua is a tiny, postcard-perfect village in
the French Alps. But it's not the scenery that will be drawing a
group of San Francisco Bay area visitors this fall.
They're coming to recall one of the forgotten heroic acts of World
War II: the village's stubborn refusal to turn over more than 50
Jews, adults and children, to the Nazis.
The visit, which is being arranged by Sausalito-based Valor Tours,
is part of a quietly growing segment of the travel industry -- tours
to the world's great theaters of war, both modern and ancient.
