Article: Letter paves the way for Thailand to buy gas from Texaco-led group

RANGOON -- The Petroleum Authority of Thailand signed a letter of support with Burma's government, paving the way for Thailand to buy natural gas from a development group led by Texaco Inc.

Thailand, Burma and the Texaco group are still discussing gas sale/purchase terms. Thailand wants to buy about 250 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Yetagun offshore field beginning in 1999.

Along with New York-based Texaco, lead developer and operator of the field, other shareholders in the venture are Nippon Oil Exploration (Myanmar) Ltd., Premier Petroleum Myanmar Ltd. and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE). Myanmar is the name given to Burma by a military government in 1991.
