DUNCAN -- Drive up and down Main Street in Duncan, and you see the results of one of the oldest and most successful Main Street Programs in Oklahoma. The stores are 97 percent occupied, and it's hard to find a parking spot in front of them.

That's not unusual in Oklahoma or most states where communities have pushed the Main Street Program vigorously. Old buildings regain their original integrity, and a new generation of shop keepers and manufacturers find innovative ways to utilize them profitably despite shopping malls and discount stores.
