Article: Job seekers tap Internet for openings

WASHINGTON -- When Wheat Belt Public Power District in Sidney, Neb., needed an experienced line foreman, it listed the position on an Internet job-site set up by the Labor Department.

And it got 12 responses, including the person it needed for the job.

Such on-line, job-search sites have boomed recently, complementing the traditional job searches in newspapers and trade magazines and visits to employment offices or personnel departments.

A Michigan State University survey late last year found 22 percent of employers using the Internet to list job openings or to recruit.

Virtually every profession has a bulletin board, and most major corporations have World Wide Web sites on the Internet. ...
